What is a Ryzen VDS?
A Ryzen VDS is a virtual server that runs on a dedicated share of a physical AMD Ryzen server's resources. The operating system is yours, so you decide which software to install and how to configure the server.
AMD Ryzen 9 processors combine high single-core clock speeds with DDR5 memory architecture. From game servers to high-traffic web and database workloads, they deliver a clear responsiveness advantage over traditional low-frequency server CPUs.
Advantages of a Ryzen-based VDS
Both lines share the three features below.
High per-core speed
When software runs a task on a single thread, one core does that work, so its speed depends on how fast that core is rather than on the number of cores. Desktop-class Ryzen 9 processors generally run at higher clock speeds than many-core server processors.
DDR5 memory
DDR5 offers more memory bandwidth than the previous DDR4 generation, which helps work that moves a lot of data in and out of memory. Both of our lines use DDR5 memory.
Gen4 NVMe storage
NVMe drives connect directly over PCIe and handle far more simultaneous read and write requests than SATA SSDs, with lower latency. The difference shows most in work made of many small reads and writes, such as databases. Our VDS servers use Samsung 990 Pro Gen4 NVMe SSDs.
Two Ryzen VDS lines: Performance and Extreme
Performance and Extreme come in the same nine package sizes: 1–16 vCores, 4–64 GB RAM and 40–320 GB NVMe. Which one suits you comes down to the processor, the memory speed and your budget.
Performance · Ryzen 9 7950X
Runs with DDR5 5600 MHz memory and costs less than Extreme at the same package size.
Extreme · Ryzen 9 9950X
Its processor is overclocked (OC) to 5.9 GHz, and its memory is DDR5 6400 MHz.
VDS vs. VPS: what is the difference?
Both terms describe services where a physical server is split into virtual machines. Providers use them differently, but the line is usually drawn at whether processor power is shared.
On a VPS (Virtual Private Server), processor power may be shared with other virtual servers on the same machine, so when the neighbors get busy, yours can slow down. On a VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server), cores are set aside for the virtual server.
At TREAS, the vCores in your package are dedicated to you and are not shared with any other customer on the same physical server. When comparing offers, look past the label and check whether dedicated cores are stated plainly.
Is web hosting enough for a single website?
If you won't run any other software next to your site, web hosting is the easier place to start. On Plesk web hosting packages, running the server is our job and managing the site is yours.
A VDS is the better fit for game servers, bots and your own software; in that case, maintaining and securing the server is up to you.
Which package for which job?
As the package size grows, vCores, RAM and NVMe grow together. Pick your first size with the notes below, then let your server's usage graphs guide the next step.
Websites and online stores
A single site or a small store usually runs well on a small package. If the web server and the database will share the server, plan for enough memory for both.
Discord bots and APIs
Your bot or API keeps running on the server without your own computer having to stay on. Most jobs like these need few resources, so the smallest sizes are a good place to start.
Game servers
Game server requirements differ widely; our VDS for game servers page sums up what Minecraft, FiveM, CS2, Rust and Hytale servers need and which package to start with.
Databases
Queries come back quickly while frequently read data fits in memory; when memory runs out, the work falls to the disk. As your data grows, choose a size with more memory.
Linux or Windows?
The software you plan to run and how you prefer to manage the server guide the choice. On the Linux side you can install Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, CentOS or CloudLinux, plus FreeBSD; on the Windows side, Windows 10 and 11 are available as well as Windows Server.
Linux VDS
Web servers, databases, bots and the server software of many games run on Linux. Distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian and AlmaLinux are free, and because they usually run without a graphical interface, more of the memory is left for your applications. You connect to the server over SSH.
Windows VDS
Choose Windows if your software only runs on Windows, such as applications built on the .NET Framework or Windows-only game servers, or if you want to manage the server through a graphical desktop over Remote Desktop (RDP). Because the graphical desktop uses memory of its own, allow for that overhead alongside your applications when sizing your package. A Windows license does not come with the package: we deliver Windows Server with a trial license.
What to check before renting a VDS
Beyond the number of vCores and the amount of RAM, look at these five points too.
- Processor model and generation
- Do not go by the name of the processor family alone; older and newer generations of the same family can differ clearly in speed. If an offer does not give the full processor model, ask for it.
- Disk type
- If a package only says SSD, ask, because an SSD is not always NVMe. Choose the disk size to fit the operating system, your applications and your data.
- DDoS protection
- If you will run a public website or a game server, find out in advance whether protection is included in the package and whether it recognizes game traffic. TRSHIELD has ready-made profiles for games, websites and remote access; the DDoS protection page has the details.
- Location and latency
- If your users are in Turkey, a server in Turkey shortens the route their data takes. Your VDS runs in Turkey, in the carrier-neutral Mars Istanbul Data Center. The Ping Test shows the latency between your connection and our servers.
- Support
- Know in advance whom to contact, and through which channel, when you cannot reach your server. Technical support at TREAS is open 24/7.
In every package
- TRSHIELD DDoS protection
- 12 Tbps of protection capacity, running on every package at no extra cost.
- Snapshot
- We include one free snapshot with every VDS.
- Client Area
- Manage your server, make payments and reach our support team, all in one place.
- Upgrades
- When your needs grow, move to a larger package from the Client Area.
